Are all tests created equal? Find out why not every career assessment can deliver useful results!

One of the best advertisements on the web is the word “Free!” When it comes to career tests, however, most people find that you get what you pay for! While a career assessment with a low price tag can be attractive, people need to understand that creating reliable and accurate tests is costly – a cost that needs to passed on to those who take the career assessment!

When it comes to tests and other career assessment services you usually get what you pay for!

The costs involved with developing valid tests for career assessment, tests based on proven theory and tested research, can reach into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. It costs money to research the questions, test the questions, study the data – and then do it all again in order to refine the test until it is ready! These costs need to be recovered once the test is released. That is why a career assessment like the MAPP (Motivational Appraisal of Personal Potential), which has been continually refined for over 40 years, costs participants anywhere from $20 to $130 to take.

While almost all tests can be informative, don’t expect too much from a free career assessment. Most experts question the validity of free quizzes and tests since it is so expensive to create a reliable career assessment. Not all career tests are created equal. Although you can still benefit from taking a free test, just realize that the results might not be trustworthy.
