More tips for taking a career assessment, test or quiz!

There are many kinds career assessments that an employment seeker can take. Your objective should be to find at least a few new ideas from each test or quiz you take. If you are considering taking a career assessment to help you figure out what you want to do with your job, then check out the following test and quiz-taking tips.

Keep the following career assessment, test and quiz tips in mind:

There is No One Test – You need to realize that there is no one, special career assessment that will give you better answers than the rest. Each free online quiz and each pay employment test can give you at least a little direction. Each one is a little different and each one will give you both good and bad results. Be aware of this as you start looking for career assessments to take.

Keep Expectations in Check – Don’t expect too much from any single career assessment. A good test or quiz will give you ideas on occupations you may not have thought of before – this is the goal of most tests. However, there is no employment test that will be able to give you a magical answer about what you should do for the rest of your life; that is up to you to decide for yourself. They can give you suggestions and ideas, but not answers.

Take a Variety of Tests – Most experts will agree that you should take more than one career assessment. Taking more than one test or quiz will give you a better, more full picture of yourself. Also, not every test will give accurate results. By taking more than one assessment you can check the validity of their results; if the same occupations keep coming up over and over again on different tests, then those are jobs that you should definitely check out!

Trust Your Instincts – There is no career assessment that knows you better than you know yourself. If you don’t like the results you get from a test or quiz, ignore them. The test can’t know exactly what you like or don’t like; it can only give suggestions that you are free to reject. On the other hand, if the results list occupations that really get you excited, then you should consider them; maybe one will lead you to your dream job!
